Felipe Massa sues FIA, FOM and Ecclestone : F1LV Blog

Former “Formula 1” pilot Felipe Massa’s lawyers have informed the media that the Brazilian motorist has sued the International Automobile Federation (FIA), F1 Management (FOM) and former championship leader Bernie Ecclestone in connection with the scandalous 2008 Singapore GP race.

About a year ago, it became known that Masa was going to try to get the results of this competition annulled. In theory, this would give him the chance to become the 2008 F1 champion, depriving Lewis Hamilton of his first title. Nelson Piquet Jr’s deliberate crash meant then-Ferrari driver Massa was without points, while his main title rival Hamilton finished third. When what happened was brought to light, it was already too late to change the results.

Masa decided to initiate legal proceedings after Ecclestone openly admitted to concealing important facts in an interview. Soon after the race, it became known that Pica crashed on purpose to help Renault teammate Fernando Alonso win. When the interview gained a lot of resonance, Ecclestone said that he did not remember such a conversation with the journalist.

The law firm “Vieira Rezende Advogados” has now announced that Masa has sued both Ecclestone, FIA and FOM in the High Court of London. The goal is to prove that existing regulations were violated without immediately starting a full-fledged investigation. Realizing that the chances of winning the title are quite slim, the Brazilian wants to at least recover the financial losses that arose in connection with not becoming the F1 champion.

Last summer, Massa approached the FIA and FOM, however, during the 2023 summer vacation, management staff were unavailable.

“Efforts to find an amicable settlement were unsuccessful, and Mr. Masa had no choice but to initiate legal proceedings,” explained the statement of “Vieira Rezende Advogados”.
