Augsburg is further developing its organizational structure: As the Fuggerstadt-based company announced, they appointed Christoph Janker as technical director and hired Babacar Wane as chief scout.

As part of the changes to the organizational structure in the sports sector, which had already been initiated at the end of 2022, FC Augsburg announced two personnel decisions on Friday afternoon: In addition to the promotion of the previous head of the licensed team, Christoph Janker, to technical director, the Fuggerstadt-based company also hired Babacar Wane as chief scout.

“After nine months in the new structure in the sports area, we looked at all the processes together under the leadership of Marinko Jurendic, optimized them and implemented a structure that suits us,” Augsburg’s managing director Michael Ströll is quoted as saying in the club’s announcement.

Janker, who ended his active career in the summer of 2019 after four and a half years at FCA, has been working in the club’s sporting management since February 2020 – most recently as head of the licensed team. With his appointment as technical director, the 39-year-old, who has a contract until 2027, is now primarily responsible for the areas of data analysis and scouting.
With Babacar Wane, the FCA is getting an expert.
For the latter area, Janker gets an experienced scout as support in Wane. Wane has already worked as chief scout at Hertha BSC (until March 2023), as a scout at Eintracht Frankfurt and in the scouting department at SC Freiburg – in three of his nine-plus years in Breisgau he held a managerial position. “With Babacar Wane, FCA is getting a specialist whose expertise will ideally complement our scouting team,” said sports director Marinko Jurendic and continued: “I am very pleased that we have two experienced colleagues on board in Christoph and Babacar. which will help shape the successful implementation of our projects.”
