Exploring Gender Stereotypes in Sport: A Visit from Paralympic Badminton Athlete Méril Loquette

As part of Press and Media Week, 4th A and B students from Claude-Debussy college, directed by Pascal Thévenet, worked with their French teacher on various media in order to discuss the gender stereotypes, diversity and inclusion in sport, in this year of the Olympic and Para-Olympic Games.

Para-badiste

This well-paced and enriching week ended with a meeting with Méril Loquette, Paralympic badminton athlete. A highly anticipated arrival for which the 6B students created a banner and panels.

After having practiced judo for a long time, Méril Loquette discovered badminton at the age of 14 and para-badminton in 2016. After representing France at the Tokyo Olympics in 2020, classified four times French champion in singles and doubles and twice European champion, today 4 th in the SU5 world, the young athlete is selected for the Paris Olympic Games.

Méril Loquette spoke at length with the students about her disability, her school career, her journey as a para-badista, her training, her lifestyle, self-confidence and harassment…

A question/answer to which the athlete and his trainer Arfi Rasidi were happy to answer. The college students also questioned him about his acting role in season 13 of the series Vestiaires.

The day ended with an introduction to badminton at the gymnasium.

Other activites. On the occasion of the Olympic Games will be offered: the Olympic Games, with the Sports Association and the FSE, the Photolympiads, a survey on the practice of sport of sixth grade students, work on the ancient Olympic Games and the Olympic and Paralympic Week .
