No question; Jannik Sinner is in top form and has been the best player on the ATP tour since last fall. With a record of 21:1, Sinner moves into his third final at the ATP Masters 1000 in Miami. The 22-year-old feels ready to banish his memories of the 2021 and 2023 final defeats in Miami. The semi-final against Daniil Medvedev in particular will have given the young South Tyrolean renewed self-confidence for the final. The Russian was only able to take three games away from the world number three.

But Sinner is not the only player who is currently experiencing a huge upswing. Former world number 3 Grigor Dimitrov has shown the best tennis of his career over the last 12 months. He has reached five ATP Tour finals (including the Masters 1000 titles in Paris and Miami) and defeated top 10 players Hubert Hurkacz, Carlos Alcaraz and Alexander Zverev en route to the final in Miami. At the same time, the Bulgarian sealed his return to the top 10 by reaching the final. “I think that the consistency with which you beat top players is a much bigger achievement than anything else,” Dimitrov said after his win against Zverev.

Sinner and Dimitrov are getting ready for their fourth encounter

The two top players have already met three times. The first meeting was in Rome in 2020, where Dimitrov won the match. Sinner got his revenge last year and won the following two matches in Miami and Beijing, both hard court tournaments.

So tomorrow everything will be open. Sinner, who is considered one of the top tournament favorites at the Miami Open, will face an extremely strong Dimitrov, who is reminiscent of Roger Federer with his one-handed backhand. His own serve could almost be particularly threatening for Sinner, because Dimitrov is very efficient at taking advantage of his break chances, and Sinner still had to improve a lot on his serve, especially last year. So everything is open and possible. In any case, we will see two players who have shown outstanding tennis and more than deserve to be in the final of the 1000 Masters.
