European Indoor Archery Championships in Turkey Postponed Following Earthquake

Following the strong earthquake that hit southern Turkey, the Turkish Minister of Youth and Sports Mehmet Kasapoğlu suspended all sporting events scheduled in the country. Therefore, the Turkish Archery Federation announced that the European Indoor Championships, which were to be held in Samsun, Turkey, from February 13 to 18, have been postponed.

The indoor continental event, which will also see the Italian delegation engaged with 32 senior and junior archers from the recurve, compound and bare bow divisions, has been postponed by a week and will take place from 19 to 24 February.

Naturally, the World Federation and the European Federation, as well as FITARCO, express their deepest condolences to the Turkish people and all members of the Turkish Archery Federation.

THE UPDATED PROGRAM

The European Federation has already published the new calendar of the competition which will see the delegations on the field for practice shooting on Sunday 19 February, while the 60 qualifying arrows that define the scoreboard of direct clashes are all scheduled for Monday. From Tuesday 21st the individual preliminaries will begin with matches up to the round of 16. On Wednesday 22nd the teams will take to the field first, with challenges up to the semi-finals, and then the archers again in the individual with matches also in this case up to the semi-finals. Thursday 23rd will be the day of the Under 21 finals of all divisions, Friday 24th the last day of competitions with all the challenges valid for the Senior medals.

THE CALLED

The technical staff has drawn up the list of those called up, in the men’s Olympic competition Mauro Nespoli (Aeronautica Militare), Federico Musolesi (Aeronautica Militare), Alessandro Paoli (Fiamme Azzurre) will compete, while in the women’s competition there will be Tatiana Andreoli (Fiamme Oro), fresh of gold in the Indoor Series stage of Nimes, Lucilla Boari (Fiamme Oro) and Chiara Rebagliati (Fiamme Oro).

Among the Juniors, the choice fell on Matteo Bilisari (Maremmana Archers Giovanni dalle Bande Nere), Matteo Borsani (Arcieri del Roccolo), Emiliano Rampon (Arcieri Sagittario – Dlf Roma), Roberta Di Francesco (Arcieri Abruzzesi), Ginevra Landi (Compagnia Arcieri Giovanni dalle Bande Nere) and Chiara Compagno (Arcieri Sagittario del Veneto).
The compound team will also be in full force and will see on the shooting line Marco Bruno (Arcieri Iuvenilia), Michea Godano (Arcieri Tigullio), Jacopo Polidori (Arcieri Torrevecchia), Sara Ret (Arcieri Cormons), Elisa Roner (Kosmos Rovereto), Marcella Tonioli (Montalcino Archers).

There are also six archers in the Junior category: Fabrizio Aloisi (Iuvenilia Archers), Lorenzo Gubbini (Assisi Archers), Rosario Sidoti (Polisportiva PAMA Archery section), Michelle Maria Bombarda (Decumanus Maximus Archers), Martina Del Duca (Archers Uras), Martina Serafini (Arco Club Tolmezzo).
In the bare bow Italy will present itself with Valter Basteri (Compagnia Frecce Apuane), Bruno Bassetta (Compagnia Arcieri Falisci) and Ferruccio Berti (Arcieri di Volpiano) for men and women with Cinzia Noziglia (Fiamme Oro), Fabia Rovatti (Ki Oshi) reigning European Indoor champion and vice-champion respectively and Laura Turello (Arcieri Udine).

Among the Juniors, the choice fell on Davide Cabua (Arcieri Uras) and Rania Braccini (Compagnia Arcieri Lucca).

The staff that will accompany the Italian archers to Samsun will be made up of Franco Beccari (Head of Delegation), the Olympic Arch Technical Director Giorgio Botto, the Olympic Arch technicians Matteo Bisiani and Amedeo Tonelli, the Compound Arch Technical Director Flavio Valesella, the Compound technician Stefano Mazzi , by the Arco Olimpico (Youth) Technical Director Ilario Di Buò, by the Arco Olimpico (Youth) coach Guendalina Sartori, by the Arco Nudo coach Daniele Bellotti, by the athletic trainer Jacopo Cimmarrusti and by the psychologist Manolo Cattari.
