A training workshop for referee coaches and scorers in Baseball and Softball was held from March 3 to 10, 2024, in Ouagadougou. This Sunday, March 10, 2024, marked the end of these few days of sharing experiences. Which share which will be essential for the organization of competitions in these disciplines, raising the level of the championships in order to hope to integrate the regional, sub-regional and continental technical commission.

Referee coaches, baseball scorers, baseball clubs and some PE teachers took to the benches to learn, over 8 days, a few things about baseball in Burkina. There were around a hundred participants from the four corners of the continent who took part in these several days of tooling.
This, with the objective according to Ibrahim Siboré, president of the Burkinabè Baseball Federation, is to raise the level of the championships and facilitate the organization of competitions in order to hope to integrate the regional, sub-regional and continental technical commission.
“It must be said that it has been a long time since our technical managers have benefited from a good training workshop. It was just training that took place over a short period of time. We therefore deemed it necessary to give them what was necessary so that they could raise the level of the national championship. We were able to carry out at least a week of training. The goal is to go to the continental level,” explained the president of the federation.
For this, these theoretical training sessions covered three modules before moving into the field to practice the knowledge acquired. Concretely, they also looked at the knowledge of the three essential links for the organization of baseball competitions including the referee, the coach and the scorer.
« Since yesterday, at the practical and theoretical phase, we have advised players on what scoring is. We made them understand the basics, the techniques and the different scoring signs. Today we are in the practical phase in the field. Everything we taught them yesterday is really satisfying because they really ask questions. I think that when they return from their localities, they will do the work learned”underlined Mariam Guitanga, president of the Central Baseball and Softball League.

Increasing skills to open up other opportunities, a bit like the objective sought by the organizers, is one of the reasons for certain participants including Samson Minougou. He also said he left with knowledge of baseball rules and coaching. “ It was super interesting. It’s interesting because it’s a mixed sport and I learned a lot,” he added.
As a reminder, Burkina Faso ended the year 2023 in 35th place in the world in Baseball5 with 8th place among the teams having collected the most points and places in the World Ranking.
