Empat sense idees against Burgos

Barcelona Espanyol starts the final stretch of the regular competition in an unconvincing manner. The duel against Burgos (0-0) was the first of the ten games that will decide the fate of the white-and-blues. Many of them, against direct rivals for promotion, as was the case this evening on Good Friday. Those of Manolo González, however, were not forceful in a dirty confrontation marked by the weather and a lack of inspiration.

Burgos started the match on a good foot, and Fer Niño was already celebrating 1-0 after three minutes, but the goal was canceled by the hand of the Andalusian player. Joan García and Caro challenged each other in a stoppage duel. The parakeet goalkeeper, once again, made merits to continue as a starter and became the hero of the night. The youngster has made exemplary use of the opportunity presented to him with Pacheco’s injury.

The cold seemed to freeze a stalled game that was being a back-and-forth of corners and unfruitful long passes. When they managed to continue the plays, however, the footballers burned their boots and were in too much of a hurry to reach the opposing goal. However, Burgos was being more intense. No team had left El Plantío with three points in their pocket this season, and Espanyol felt the weight of the fort. At half-time the score was still empty, but the atmosphere was heated by the disallowed goal, the numerous fouls and the expulsion of the local coach for protesting.

Burgos knew how to combine better. Fer Niño’s header hit the crossbar, and a couple of shots went wide of Joan García’s goal. To make matters worse, an intense downpour began to fall, which did not bode well. And so, with rain and cold, but without ideas or goals, the first of Espanyol’s ten finals ended. There are still nine left, and you will have to find new ideas to overcome them.
