Elisa Balsamo Shines in Sprint at Classic Brugge-De Panne, Taking Advantage of Absent Top Sprinters

The preparatory work was done by DSM-Firmenich PostNL, but Elisa Balsamo made optimal use of the red carpet. The Italian from Lidl-Trek beat Charlotte Kool in the sprint of Classic Brugge-De Panne. In this way, she takes full advantage of the absence of top sprinter Lorena Wiebes by winning for the second time in De Panne.

No SD Worx-Protime (not enough riders) at the start, so no Lorena Wiebes or Lotte Kopecky either. An abundance of sprinters and a lack of wind meant that it was already clear in Bruges that there would be a sprint for victory.

This gave us a sprint preparation of no less than 155 kilometers. Not that there was a lack of attacks, but they were invariably nipped in the bud, mainly by DSM-Firmenich PostNL.

The Dutch Nina Buijsman was able to start the second passage of De Moeren, where the wind was no ally for attackers, with a lead of one minute.

But at the end of the endless concrete strip, her party was over. Then it became completely clear that a sprint was inevitable.

DSM still had enough energy left to sprint for Charlotte Kool, but Elisa Balsamo was freewheeling in her wheel and came out with a lot of strength and conviction.
