Dynamo Dresden Barely Escapes Embarrassment in Saxony Cup Quarter-Finals

Phew. Dynamo Dresden narrowly avoided embarrassment in the Saxony Cup quarter-finals, winning 7-6 on penalties at Oberliga team VFC Plauen.

Captain Stefan Kutschke: “We can play much better. We missed the opportunity to present tasks to a low-lying opponent.”

Coach Markus beginning rotates properly, only three professionals from the last third division kick against Ulm (0-0) start in the sold-out Vogtlandstadion (5,000 spectators).

The Dresden players, playing in wine red, clearly set the tone. But on a real boggy pitch, they have problems developing their combination game and achieving dangerous shots.

Managing director David Fischer during the break on MDR: “It’s a game of patience. You can tell we’re having a hard time.”

Nothing changes after the break. Dynamo runs, but keeps getting stuck in the defense of the Plauen after-work kickers.

There is a lack of precision, determination and assertiveness. Or to put it another way: That is simply not enough against the self-sacrificing fighting people of Plauen!

Coachbeginn brings new offensive forces with Zimmerschied, Lemmer and Kutsckke, the third division team definitely wants to avoid the exhausting extension.

Doesn’t work! Even worse: After Dresden’s amateur defensive behavior, Plauen even took the lead through Martynets (97th). Initially frustrated, shocked, perplexed. At halftime of extra time, he no longer has anything to say to his team and remains seated in his coaching chair.

Kutschke heads to equalize

Luckily, Stefan Kutschke also understands what needs to be done. The substitute captain heads in after Arslan’s corner to make it 1-1 (115th).

It stays that way until the end. The decision will be made on penalties. There, substitute keeper Daniel Mesenhöler becomes the savior, stopping the shot from Plauen’s Spranger. Jakob Lemmer then nets for a 7:6 win.

Coach Beginning: “We gave the boys playing time who wouldn’t otherwise get a chance. You can see that one or the other is still missing.”

In the semi-finals Dynamo Dresden has to go to Zwickau, in the other game Bischofswerda hosts FC Erzgebirge Aue.
