Dutch Team Struggles with Ball Possession in Friendly Win Against Scotland

The Dutch team won 4-0 against Scotland in a friendly international match on Friday evening, but the team had a difficult time getting started. According to national coach Ronald Koeman, this was due to the sloppiness in possession of the ball.

“With the exception of the last phase, we were not good with the ball. Restless, sloppy,” Koeman said at a press conference. “If you play against a team that covers short… Also once again with Mark (Fleken, ed.), who played great.”

Koeman then mentions Feyenoord player Mats Wieffer. “Mats puts a ball down on the sixteen… Like: just shoot it in. If you make these kinds of mistakes in your build-up, in possession of the ball, then a system or a match is not appropriate.”

Koeman doesn’t know what’s behind that either. “That could be due to a bit of pressure or wanting to do well and not having the confidence that you play with every weekend. Ultimately, the Dutch team demands a certain level, regardless of your position or how often you are invited. They have that, but then they have to play better,” said Ronald Koeman.
