Atlético Nacional made official this Monday the departure of the experienced forward Dorlan Pabón after presenting his resignation due to “personal things”, in the midst of the club’s sporting crisis and on the eve of the official presentation of the Uruguayan Pablo Repetto as the new coach.
“His punch, his goals, his leadership, the drive, the titles, the love for the shirt. Today he says goodbye to Verde, but he will always be one of ours. IDOL!”, Atlético Nacional published on its social networks along with a video with statements from the 36-year-old Colombian attacker.
Pabón, who has played during his career in clubs in Italy, Spain, Brazil and Mexico, made the decision to separate from the Medellín institution five days after the elimination of the Copa Libertadores in the previous phase when they were defeated 4-0 in the overall by the Paraguayan Nacional.
“I came to win titles and I accomplished it. Now I’m leaving through the big door,” said ‘Memín’, as he is known, to announce his goodbye after hostile days, amid complaints from the fans and reports of threats by the managers.
“This decision has not been easy. I had thought a lot about this decision, but that is now part of football and life. Until now I have seen the Nacional shirt for personal reasons, for myself, for peace of mind. I think I have already fulfilled a cycle in Nacional and I want to leave that like that,” declared Pabón.
The experienced forward, after nine years in international football, returned in July 2021 to Atlético Nacional, an institution with which he won two Colombian leagues (2011-I and 2022-I), two Colombia Cup titles (2021 and 2023). and a Super League (2023), in addition to scoring 79 goals.

Regarding his future, the now former Green player did not close the door on the possibility of continuing his career at another club. “I’m going to prepare well to see if I continue playing or not. But at this moment I want to be calm and enjoy my family,” added the attacker.
Pabón lived his first cycle in Nacional between 2010 and 2012 to be transferred to the Italian Parma, later wear the shirt of the Spanish Real Betis and Valencia, register a fleeting time in Sao Paulo in 2014 and have a double journey for Rayados de Monterrey, the first in 2013 and the second between 2014-2021.
The footballer also left a message on his social networks. “To the players, the coaching staff, the directors, the staff, the kitchen, the media and the fans who were always there during difficult times: thank you,” Dorlan wrote.
“I’m leaving grateful. As I said one day: I came to win titles and I delivered. I’m leaving through the big door,” he added.
After the surprising departure of its captain, Atlético Nacional announced that this Tuesday will be the official presentation of Uruguayan coach Pablo Repetto, successor to Jhon Bodmer, who resigned 10 days ago for “security reasons.”
