The 29-year-old defeated number eight seeded American Frances Tiafoe 6:4, 5:7, 6:1 and will now face young Danish tennis star Holger Rune in the fight for the semi-finals.
However, the tournament is over for Dennis Altmaier. One day after the surprising success in the German duel against the top-seeded Olympic champion Alexander Zverev, the 25-year-old lost to the Serbian Miomir Kecmanovic 4:6, 4:6.
