The savings measures at the DFB also reach our national players!

As a result of the Nike deal, the DFB jersey will change from 2027. Another measure took effect immediately: According to BILD information, the free ticket regulation for national players was overturned.

Until now, players could simply order tickets for their family and friends from team manager Thomas Beheshti (43). The quota for home games: four VIP tickets per player.

However, this was handled variably; players could also order two VIP tickets and three or four normal tickets. This usually took place via short official channels. This is now over for the national players!

Players no longer receive free tickets and instead have to order them via a portal. As negotiated with the team council, there is an allowance of 1,000 euros per player per game.

The measure is said to have been suggested by the management under Andreas Rettig (60). The model has tax reasons, but it causes astonishment among the team.

The players were given a link to a ticket portal where they had to place their order. A VIP card there, for example, costs 357 euros gross. The form “GERMANY vs. NETHERLANDS – player purchase card” was sent to each individual player.

It says, among other things: “Every player in the squad receives a nomination bonus of 1,000 euros for the home game. The team council will inform you about how this payment is processed.” The process and things that the players should definitely pay attention to (“ATTENTION”) are then regulated: “You must register in advance” and “Have a means of payment ready”.

The bureaucracy doesn’t stop at our national players either: using this method, the DFB can bill the cards as a monetary benefit.

The DFB tickets for deserving legends recently caused trouble: BILD reported on Monday that former DFB national coach Berti Vogts refused an additional ticket for his son for the international match against Italy in Mönchengladbach in June 2022 (5:2).

Vogts then sent his honorary card back in protest. The man who coached the last European champion team in 1996 was also not offered tickets by the DFB for the European Championship opener on June 14th against Scotland.

The DFB is financially struggling. The reasons: the expensive campus in Frankfurt (200 million construction costs, 18 million euros annual operating costs), the lack of success of the national team with an annual budget deficit of 19.5 million euros.

There is also a dispute with the tax office. For 2006, 2014 and 2015, the DFB was deprived of its tax-advantaged non-profit status. But: A successful home European Championship with UEFA bonuses would help. Otherwise, a deep financial crisis could cause a “more serious problem,” according to Treasurer Grunwald.
