The NFL has awarded the Detroit Lions the Global Markets Program rights for Canada and Canada and Germany as part of the global growth of professional football, the league announced Monday. The team is also awarded marketing rights to Austria and Switzerland.

The new agreement will allow the Lions to host events in order to attract Canadian, German, Austrian, and Swiss fans in the market.

Beginning April 1, the league said the Lions will start expansion into those markets, and it will include on-site events, region-specific websites, content, promotional campaigns and more.

The Lions join the Seattle Seahawks and Minnesota Vikings to have those exclusive rights in Canada. The Buffalo Bills, who are the other team to border Canada, are not a part of the program.
