Deniz Undav’s Late Goal Saves VfB Stuttgart, But Leaves Him “Speechless” – Clear Words After Draw Against Heidenheim

Deniz Undav saved VfB Stuttgart from a draw against newly promoted Heidenheim with a late goal. But the striker couldn’t be happy about it, he was too “speechless” after the performance from the 60th minute onwards.

If a player scores to win the point in the eighth minute of added time, the scorer’s mood after the final whistle is usually good, but not so with Deniz Undav – and there were reasons for that. His VfB initially had everything under control against newly promoted Heidenheim, leading comfortably 2-0, but then the thread almost completely broke. The Stuttgart team unnecessarily brought the guests back into the game with an own goal from Alexander Nübel and, after a double strike from Tim Kleindienst, even faced their second defeat against the newly promoted team.

Undav was particularly impressed by his performance from the 60th minute onwards Sky back “speechless”. “The way we played was arrogant, nobody did anything defensively. I was shocked at how we performed,” the new national player made clear. “Usually after the 2-0 we are still consistent and try to score 3-0 and 4-0 as a team and today it was the complete opposite.” Instead, “everyone tried to score their own goal instead of looking for each other or playing as a team.” And Undav followed up: “If you want to be at the top, you can’t perform like that.”

Undav would rather have two more points than a club record

That’s why he couldn’t really be happy about his goal. Undav “didn’t give a shit” about the fact that this also set a club record. The strike duo Serhou Guirassy (23 goals) and Undav (15) have now scored a total of 38 goals this season. That is one more goal than Karl Allgöwer (21 goals) and Jürgen Klinsmann (16) managed in the 1985/86 season. The 27-year-old would have much preferred to have two more points than the record.

In the top game on Saturday at Borussia Dortmund (6.30 p.m., LIVE! on kicker), Undav also demanded a reaction: “The way we played until the 60th minute, we have to play until the 90th or 100th.”

Stuttgart residents get infected by the party atmosphere

VfB coach Sebastian Hoeneß also noticed his team’s drop in performance: “I didn’t like the mood from 2-0 onwards, there was a party in the stadium. It’s okay that the fans are happy. We have to stay serious and clear .” Instead, his team got infected. Nevertheless, there is something to take away from the defeat: “That we have to act a little more maturely, confidently and clearly to be really sure that we leave the pitch as winners.”

The best is with BVB, who have moved up to four points from the Swabians in the table after their 2-0 win in Munich.
