De Benedetti Memorial Tournament Kicks Off in Piacenza, Brescia to Follow

Over the weekend, the De Benedetti stadium reopens its doors, offering the twenty-sixth edition of the City of Piacenza Tournament which, starting from its fourth edition, is named after Giovanni De Benedetti, pioneer of bat and run in our city. An event that has now found its fixed place in the spring pre-season period which this year, at least in the red and white home, is characterized by particular anticipation given the profound changes that the team has undergone which from April 21st will be grappling with with the B series. Memorial De Benedetti with the triangular formula spread over two days. It starts on Saturday (3pm) with the unprecedented match between Piacenza and the Swiss Lausanne Indians representing a baseball school that may not be a leading one but is undoubtedly clearly growing. Switzerland earned poule A in the last European Championship and occupies 15th position in the continental ranking. Specifically, the Lausanne Indians are a young team, in which some Italians also find space and which boasts a Swiss Cup in 2008, a National Title in 2017 and six French-speaking Switzerland titles in its palmares. A test that Piacenza will face being able to count on the two Reggio reinforcements Carrasco and Torelli, absent last Sunday in Codogno. Niccolò Loardi is still out but recovering and will be the only one absent. The De Benedetti Memorial will continue on Sunday when Brescia will enter the scene, opposing the loser of the day before at 11am and the winner at 3.30pm. All matches will be 7 innings long. With Brescia it will be a taste of the championship as the Lombards, after relegation from Serie A, are placed in the same group as Piacenza with the direct clash already scheduled for the second day. In short, the conditions are for a “real” tournament in which, despite the reduced preparation times, the participants will certainly not spare themselves. Entrance is free and the awards will be held directly on the diamond after the conclusion of the third match.

THE KIDS AT MINIBASEBALL ON SUNDAY IN BOLLATE

Piacenza’s youngest team is away on Sunday in Bollate for the fourth day of the circuit organized by the Lombardy Committee of the Fibs. For the nice red and white promises, at the limit of 8 years, this is the first seasonal outdoor commitment after the long indoor winter interlude. A total of nine teams will be on the field in Bollate with the group coached by Davide Bertonazzi and Francesca Contini placed in the group with Braves and the mixed formation Seveso-Malnate-Rescaldina. This first spring outing is a prelude to the championship, in Western Emilia, which will begin in April.
