David Domínguez: The Rising Star of Judo in Costa Rica

San José, March 2024. David Domínguez is a young 22-year-old athlete from the community of La Carpio who has become a prominent figure in Judo in Costa Rica and has represented the country in more than five international competitions. Currently, he is one of the most active representatives of the discipline in La Carpio and participates as a judoka from the province of San José, for the National Games.

“At SIFAIS, we are very proud to be a hotbed of sporting talent, for the country and the community of La Carpio. At this moment we require the collaboration of Costa Ricans to reach the goal of $3,970 to cover the expenses of David Domínguez and SENSEI Ramón González, who this year celebrates a decade of voluntarily training hundreds of young people in this difficult and demanding in Carpio”, expressed Maris Stella Fernandez, president of the SIFAIS Foundation.

A path of success, discipline and collaboration

“Being able to represent Costa Rica and above all a community like La Carpio is a source of pride. Furthermore, having the endorsement of technical and sports committees that see in me the discipline and values ​​of a professional athlete, generates great responsibility for me,” said David Domínguez, judoka from La Carpio.

Domínguez started in the discipline of judo, when he was only 12 years old and has achieved more than 40 medals between gold, silver and bronze. In addition, he has participated in National Games, where he has managed to be the National Champion on three occasions, representing the province of San José and has been selected to fly the Costa Rican flag in international competitions in Colombia, Panama, the Dominican Republic and now in Brazil.

During his participation in the 2022 Cadet and Junior Pan American Cup, in the Dominican Republic, Domínguez managed to win the bronze medal in the junior category.

Judo and SIFAIS Foundation

“It is an honor to be able to witness the growth of David and the Judo Carpio SIFAIS participants and to be able to accompany him to the Pan American Judo Seniors in Brazil to be a mentor and support for him,” indicated Sensei Ramón González, ideator of this sports program in La Carpio, when, -as master builder of one of the Cuevadeluz spaces-, he met the Sifais Foundation.

“At SIFAIS, we have worked hard for more than 10 years to achieve what was initially a dream, and is now a reality. “Turn an area like La Carpio into a hotbed full of talent and sport” González commented.

The JUDO DOJO CARPIO SIFAIS celebrates 10 years of existence this year. The program began at SIFAIS, thanks to the vision and love that the now sensei Ramón González felt when he saw the work being done at the foundation. Thus he decided to propose the creation of a space to practice judo, and contribute without remuneration his capacity as a coach of the sport. Since then, hundreds of children and young people have developed their talent and discipline.
