This year, the Nuggets are determined to defend their championship title. Starting on the same bases as last season, Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray are also walking on water. However, a similar duo could hinder them in the future according to a veteran.
Highly expected to be elected MVP at the end of the season, Nikola Jokic will also try to lift the Larry O’Brien trophy for the second consecutive time with the Nuggets. Last year, it was his duet with Jamal Murray which was largely the reason for this success. And fortunately for the Denver franchise, both men appear to be in as good shape as they were last season.
As captain of the ship, the Serb is lucky to have the rear star as a lieutenant. But while this team is announced by a large majority of observers as favorites for the title, Danny Green took advantage of his free time as a free agent to talk about another shock tandem which could soon take over from them in his podcast Inside The Green Room.
Is the Joel Embiid/Tyrese Maxey duo stronger than Nikola Jokic/Jamal Murray?
Given that he’s injured, people forget that Joel Embiid is MVP caliber. He’s even literally the reigning MVP. He sat out and we had the emergence of Tyrese Maxey, who could have been a starting All-Star. These two can become the new Nikola Jokic/Jamal Murray. This type of duo can even lead the Sixers to the title in one season. They just need to stay healthy.

We hope that Joel Embiid will be back soon, we don’t know when that will happen. But I am convinced that they will be a dangerous team to face in the playoffs. No team, whether 2nd or 3rd, will want to face the 76ers in 7th or 6th. Even if they are 8th, it would be like a conference final in the 1st round against the Celtics. His return should take place by the end of March, but in the meantime it was Tyrese Maxey who had to take the reins of the team, something he did brilliantly.
Averaging 26 points, the 23-year-old leader is having the best season of his career. Currently, Nick Nurse’s men are 7th in the West. But Danny Green, a former member of the squad, believes they remain a threat to the competition and that things could get even worse once The Process is fully restored.
Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray won a title together, so taking inspiration from them wouldn’t be a bad idea when it comes to Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey. It remains to be seen whether they will be able to put this into practice when the Cameroonian returns from injury.
