Danielle Collins defeated Caroline Garcia in straight sets
Danielle Collins caused a little surprise in the quarterfinals of the WTA 1000 tournament in Miami. The world number 53. won against Caroline Garcia, who was seeded 23rd, 6:3 and 6:2 and thus moved into the semi-finals in Florida.
Garcia had won against Naomi Osaka and Coco Gauff, among others, on the way to the round of the last eight, but ultimately had no chance against Collins. The American, who will end her career after the season, will now face Jessica Pegula or Ekaterina Alexandrova in the semifinals.
Elenea Rybakina and Victoria Azarenka had already purchased their semi-final tickets on Tuesday (local time). The women’s final in Miami will take place on Saturday.
