Cuban Men’s Archery Team Competes in South American Championship Semifinals

Havana, March 27 (ACN) The Cuban men’s team will face its Colombian counterpart today in one of the semifinals of the double round at 70 meters, in the South American Archery Championship hosted by Maricá, Brazil, where the exponents of the Island compete as guests.

On the other side of the organization chart, the Brazilians are waiting for the winner of the duel between Panama and Chile, to settle the other cast that will advance to the title discussion.

This Tuesday, in the qualification round, Cuban goalkeepers Hugo Franco, Juan José Santisteban and Javier Vega accumulated 1,951 points.

Individually, Franco placed sixth among the 27 participants in that phase by completing 664 units, after the 72 arrows shot with the recurve bow.

The goalkeeper from Pinar del Río reached 330 and 334 lines in the two parts into which the test is divided; while his partner Santisteban achieved a score of 644 and finished in 15th place, and Vega totaled 643 to finish in 17th position, according to the official site of the contest.

Tomorrow, Thursday, in the qualifying rounds of the 32nd stage, Franco will compete with the Panamanian Francisco Osorio, Santiesteban will be the opponent of the host Gustavo Paulino Dos Santos and Vega will be the opponent of the Chilean Ricardo Soto.

If they advance to the round of 16, the island’s goalkeepers would have a more complex path, especially Vega and Santiesteban, who would meet the local Marcus D’Almeida and the Colombian Santiago Arcila, respectively.
