Commissioner Adam Silver Plans Changes for NBA All-Star Game Following Disappointment

The All-Star Game was once again a disappointment this season, and Commissioner Adam Silver was reportedly not happy about the lack of action. In an interview, Silver indicated that there would soon be changes again.

“I think that the young players in particular see the All-Star Game as a break during the season where they can have fun and recover from a very long season,” Silver stated in an interview with CNN. “There are around 1,300 games in a season and they are all very intense.”

The commissioner admitted that while it was a “great weekend,” the All-Star Game itself was “not a basketball game.” “The time may have passed when we can play a really intense game. But this is not an exclusive problem; it is also the case in other sports.”

Instead, Silver sees more of an opportunity that the break could be used for more entertainment. As an example, the commissioner cited the first-ever shootout between Stephen Curry and WNBA star Sabrina Ionescu, which was clearly the highlight of the weekend. “We should do more things like this and honor the game,” Silver said.

Another option is to abolish the All-Star Game in its current form. Instead, the NBA wants to examine whether USA vs. Team World would be an alternative. “We’ll look into it,” Silver assured, but also emphasized once again that he doubted that this would motivate the players more.
