Colombian archer Sara López clinches gold at Archery World Cup Hermosillo, Mexico

The multiple world medalist Sara López once again left the Colombian flag at the top of the podium, after becoming champion in the Archery World Cup in Hermosillo, Mexico, a result for which she receives an important economic incentive.

The 28-year-old from Pereira managed to take home the gold medal for the sixth consecutive year, after having a masterful closing in the compound bow event, where she had a vibrant finish to take the gold.

Sara José López had an exciting final in which, thanks to her cunning, she managed to become the champion, having a great score in her last three shots of her arrows.

In the final Sara beat the Danish Tanja Gellenthien, by just one point, consolidating her dominance in the women’s compound category and adding her sixth consecutive victory in the World Cup.

Sara expressed her amazement and gratitude for the victory, saying, “I’m in shock. My goal was to stay focused on my shots, do my best and I achieved that. The Mexican public has helped me keep my spirits up and win this title.”

Sara López demonstrated a high level throughout the season, reserving her best performance for the final. Her previous achievements include silver medals at the Archery World Cup, in Antalya and Medellin, as well as a fourth place finish in Paris, which gave her the confidence to improve even further in this ultimate competition.

Sara Lopez defeated India’s Jyothi Surekha Vennam in the quarterfinals and overcame Korea’s in-form Cho in the semifinals with a strong performance.

The Pereira athlete received a great prize for reaching first place in the competition, thanks to the competition regulations that include an economic incentive for the competitors.

Meanwhile, for having achieved second place, the Danish archer, Tanja Gellenthien, obtained a total of 15 thousand Swiss francs, a little more than 67 million Colombian pesos.

While the third place on the podium belonged to the Mexican Dafne Quintero, who was left with a loot of 8 thousand Swiss francs, which is equivalent to about 35 million Colombian pesos.
