Coach Emmons ends with biathletes. We didn’t move forward in terms of shooting, Hamza said

Shooting coach Matthew Emmons left the Czech biathletes after two seasons. The 42-year-old native of Mount Holly, USA, and the Olympic champion in sports shooting, ended the cooperation at his own request. The Biathlon Union reported this on its website.

“We thank Matt for the work he has done for the Czech Biathlon during two seasons and we wish him much success in his next challenges,” the representatives of the association wrote in the statement.

The Olympic champion in prone shooting from the small rifle joined the Czech team in May 2022. Before that, he worked for the US biathlon team. The husband of the Czech Olympic champion Kateřina Emmons participated in the management of the men’s and women’s teams this season.

Czech biathletes have not had a successful season. After 14 years, they did not fight for a single place on the podium and came up empty at the World Championship in February.

The head of the union, Jiří Hamza, also pointed out the worsening of the shooting in an interview with ČTK a few days ago. “Unfortunately, we didn’t move forward in terms of shooting. Rather, we took two steps back. We went up in running after the World Cup, but the shooting was very bad. That’s probably how we all perceive it. And to say that it was good, when we see everywhere that our parameters have dropped , it wouldn’t be quite the same,” said Hamza.
