Erin Cuthbert is a key player for Chelsea as the remain in the fight for four trophies this season
“I forget what tournament we’re playing in sometimes.”
The Chelsea schedule is hectic as they pursue a possible quadruple but you will not hear Scotland international Erin Cuthbert complaining.
“I love this time of the season, it’s when the best of me comes out,” the 25-year-old midfielder told the BBC’s Behind the Goals podcast.
The Women’s Super League champions sit top of the table and have one foot in the last four of the Champions League.
They also have a WSL Cup final to look forward to this month, with an FA Women’s Cup semi-final on the horizon.
“For us, it’s a game every three days,” said Cuthbert, who has a double-header with Scotland coming up in early April.
“You’ve just got to focus on what’s in front of you. That’s why we’re in the position we are, because we’ve never got too far ahead of ourselves. Sticking to that is super-important.
“Nothing is done. We could end up with zero. It’s great to be at this point, but we need to go and make it happen.
“I love being involved in all four competitions. When you pick up a niggle sometimes you don’t have time to recover but three points gets you through it. Whatever knock you have, it always feels better after a win.”
There have been plenty of victories too; 16 in the past 17 outings for Emma Hayes’ side.
Next up is the home leg of a Champions League quarter-final against Ajax, with a handy 3-0 cushion established in Amsterdam.
“It’s a great lead but by no means is it over,” said Cuthbert. “They’re a good team and they have nothing to lose, so they’ll be coming at us all guns blazing.”
Stamford Bridge ‘energy’ and ‘fresh start’ for Scotland
That game will be at Stamford Bridge, where all of Chelsea’s European ties are played, while some league and cup games are still played at the much smaller Kingsmeadow.
“Having that home advantage cannot be underestimated,” said Cuthbert of sharing the same ground as the men’s team.
“The club are working very hard. We can’t do much more from a football point of view.
“It [bigger attendances] keeps your energy high and we have to keep performing to keep bringing the fans back.”
After the WSL Cup final with Arsenal on 31 March, Cuthbert will join up with the Scotland squad.
European Championship qualifying begins away to Serbia on 5 April, with Slovakia then visiting Hampden four days later.
“Serbia are a good side,” said Cuthbert, who has 22 goals from 65 caps. “My Chelsea team-mate Jelena Cankovic is so technical.
“We need a positive result. Momentum is so important in a campaign.
“It feels like a bit of a fresh start. I really believe we have something good and we’re on the edge of something.”
