Charlie Culberson’s Attempt to Reinvent Himself as a Pitcher Takes a Major Blow

Finally, Charlie Culberson saw his attempt to reinvent himself as a pitcher in major league baseball take a major blow on Saturday.

The 34-year-old, who primarily played as an infielder and left fielder throughout his career, was released by the Atlanta Braves while he tried his luck as a pitcher to break into the training.

After 11 seasons in the MLB at various positions, he arrived this spring with ambitions of being retained as a pitcher after signing a contract for the minor leagues. In three appearances on the mound during preparatory games, he allowed six runs in just two innings.

Earlier in his career, the man who has 586 games under his belt already had the chance to pitch for a few appearances. In seven and a third innings on the mound, he posted an earned run average of 1.23.

Despite this release from the Braves, the one who played only one game for the organization last season would not consider retirement for the moment.

Author of 145 RBIs and a .248 average, Culberson played for the San Francisco Giants, Colorado Rockies, Los Angeles Dodgers, Braves and Texas Rangers.
