On Monday afternoon, the professionals from 1. FC Union Berlin got back to work after three days without training. Around 200 fans attended the only public session before the next away game on Holy Saturday (3:30 p.m., LIVE! on kicker) at Eintracht Frankfurt.
With April weather including clouds, sleet showers, sun and rainbows, coach Nenad Bjelica had to make some changes to the training and game formats. There was only one goalkeeper available, U19 goalkeeper Berkin Arslanogullari.
The actual professional goalkeepers were away from the pitch for various reasons. Regular goalkeeper Frederik Rönnow is currently on an international trip with Denmark. Alexander Schwolow, who was rested in the friendly against second division team 1. FC Magdeburg (3-1) on Thursday, was missing for personal reasons, according to the club.
Jakob Busk, the second substitute keeper, had to sit out due to a calf injury he sustained against Magdeburg. The Dane is certainly not expected to return to the training pitch this week.
Pain in the ankle at Hollerbach
There was also some bad luck with injuries on Monday. Suddenly Benedict Hollerbach was on the ground. The attacker screamed, the pain was so great. Players, supervisors and head coach Bjelica ran over.
After a break in treatment, Hollerbach was at least able to walk again with his right ankle bandaged. However, he still had to break off the unit early.
How serious the injury is remained unclear. Against Magdeburg he was able to gain self-confidence with two goals. Now he will hope that the injury wasn’t too serious.
Haberer is still missing
Janik Haberer is still not visible. The midfielder has been missing for two weeks due to a fall injury that was probably not sustained during football. According to Union, Haberer would train individually.
