Göttingen – The “Magicians” were the big winners last weekend, while the Violets missed a huge opportunity to take a significant step towards staying in the league.

While the BG is trying to keep calm, which may seem understandable from the club’s perspective, the new constellation certainly gives cause for concern, especially since the Göttingen team has to play against opponents in the last nine games of the season, some of whom are significantly better are positioned as themselves.

    The remaining program

April 1st: Let’s start with the Easter Monday match against the Basketball Lions Braunschweig – the Lower Saxony derby par excellence! The Lions are tenth.

April 7th: Then follows the home game against Würzburg. The fourth place team is super strong this season.

April 14th: Appearance with former coach Roel Morrs’ Bonn team as well as Harald Frey and Till Pape. The baskets are eights.

April 21st: Chemnitz comes to the S-Arena. The Niners are second and just lost unfortunately against Berlin.

April 27th: The violets have to go to Bamberg for the twelfth. The Franconians mostly looked bad.

May 1st: The second remaining Lower Saxony derby against Oldenburg (eleventh). Very difficult, just like the next game on…

May 5th: The third Lower Saxony derby at fifth-placed Rasta Vechta (with physio Domenik Theodorou and sports director Gerrit Kersten-Thiele, both formerly of Göttingen).

May 9th: Ascension Day is the last home game against MBC (currently 13th place), against whom things didn’t always go well in the S-Arena.

May 12th: Season finale in Hamburg with ninth place in the table – and maybe the BG’s halali in the Bundesliga?

This much is certain: in this series you will probably have to tremble until the last day of the game. The question must be allowed: against whom does the BG want to get the two or even three victories that are certainly necessary against these strong competitors?

    Bank expulsion with consequences

Meanwhile, the “bank expulsion” of BG coach Olivier Foucart in Crailsheim in the 18th minute of the game and the subsequent behavior of the Crailsheim hall announcer made national headlines. “Coach flies, hall announcer waves after him” is the headline of “Bild” in its online report on “Wild scenes in the basketball Bundesliga”. The tabloid also made fun of the rather inappropriate appearance of the Merlin announcer, whose verbal appearance was hardly characterized by neutrality. “Dyn” commentator Florian Pertsch is also quoted. He doesn’t think such unsportsmanlike behavior is good at all: ‘You can celebrate it a bit. But as the hall announcer in Crailsheim sometimes does, it’s just a bit too much for me.” The TV man continues: “You can discuss the decision of the refs, but Olivier Foucart gets too upset about it.”

But (fair) behavior from the host is also a matter of luck – even in (basketball) sports. (haz/gsd-nh)
