Cesena-Arezzo: remembering the Pirate, son of the wind

Evening of great cheering in the stadium stands Manuzzi where two excellent groups of fans with long histories compete in an always beautiful setting such as that of the stadium in the neighbourhood La Fiorita. The people from Arezzo arrive in large numbers, around 550, which is no small feat on a Tuesday evening in February, for a team that is certainly not fighting for promotion to the higher category. The distance is not excessive, there are not very many kilometers separating Arezzo from Cesena, but it is one of those routes that can only be done with a private vehicle or by coach, you certainly cannot get there by train and a weekday evening would certainly limit Very. The 550 people from Arezzo are therefore an excellent number which also proves to be very, very qualitatively valid. The support in the stands by the organized groups of the Arezzo curve is truly of a high level and consistency.

They always sang from the moment they entered the stands when they all showed up together, bursting onto the scene in a compact and choreographic manner, then holding out until the last second of the five minutes of injury time granted by the referee, supporting their team and making themselves heard. several times, despite one Sea Curve who also put on a good show tonight. They waved their flags constantly throughout the match, lit torches and offered lots of clapping and lots and lots of chants. Very beautiful was the scarf enriched by many flags and two poles that they performed at the end of the match, when the result was almost achieved, even if then there was a flare-up from Arezzo right in the last minutes of injury time, which also foreshadowed the possibility of a draw, a moment in which his fans literally caught fire.

There’s no need to say anything else. A historic fan base who followed their team on the pitches of Serie D as well as Serie B and who always brought good numbers away and a constant constant presence wherever Arezzo played. We certainly won’t find out about the championship, cup and friendlies tonight. However, they really put together an excellent display of support.

This evening the Sea Curve instead decides to create a choreography in memory of the never forgotten Marco Pantani, that pirate who was, as well as a great champion of our cycling, also a great fan of Cesena, a passion he never made a secret of and even when he was at his peak of success, he never missed an opportunity to nominate Cesena as his favorite team. Likewise, he has always been present at the stadium, both when he was still unknown to the general public and when he climbed the highest peaks in Italy and France, cycling tours of which he literally wrote history. The choreography is very touching and meaningful. He fills the entire Curva with a blow-up of himself on a bicycle surrounded by many cards with the words “Marco lives”. There were also several chants in favor of and in memory of the Pirate, especially those calling for justice for his sad story in which, sportingly as well as humanly, his name served the giant media mud machine more than seeking an objective truth that also soothe the pain of his family.

From that moment on, the people of Cesena offered their usual support, always a step above the category. It is a curve, the black and white one, which objectively deserves much more than the C series. And this year, given the progress of its team, it seems set to make the longed-for direct leap for the return to that B series which unfortunately they had to abandon in cause of the failure. After going through the hell of Serie D, which fortunately only lasted a year, after five years in the quicksand of Serie C, the fans never gave up, they always responded with numbers constantly above the average spectators of the category. And this stands out. It is enough to look at the scoreboards of recent years to see how their attendances have always been well above, much above the average, also keeping up very well with all those historic central-southern fans of group C, who for the common imaginary are the warmest and most numerous, those who seem to chew and live with much more passion than their counterparts in Central-Northern Italy who instead have smaller numbers at least in Serie C. Common imaginary which does not do justice to these valuable squares universal.

All in all, an excellent Curva Mare, no doubt about it. They sang from start to finish, they proposed a beautiful scarf at the start of the match, just before the choreography, repeating it after the final whistle with the whole team under the sector: a truly thrilling “Romagna mia” that involved the whole stadium , including the stands and stands, who filled the field of vision with black and white scarves for a truly beautiful and exciting show of colors and voices. For the rest they supported their team loudly, pushing it and contributing to the result on the pitch, as they have probably been doing since the beginning of the season.

In the middle between the home team and the away fans, this evening the casual component is also present in good numbers, positioned in the lower part of the ranks in around fifty, which is no small thing considering that their group was recently decimated by about fifteen warnings which certainly undermined its foundations. A provision that could have compromised its very existence but apparently this is not the case. However, they do make themselves heard in spurts of support, even from the players on the pitch who went underneath them to celebrate after the goal occurred under the visitors’ goal, just as at the end of the match they come near them to say hello and thank them. This is a sign that in any case their chants reach the pitch and being positioned close to the sideline means that their chants reach the players, who realize it and appreciate it. They make themselves heard, as per their tradition, even by the rival fans with whom they exchange not exactly friendly chants several times.

Once again, therefore, a beautiful evening full of entertainment on the pitch and in the stands, in a stadium that continues to remain one of the best theaters in which to watch a football match.
