Caroline Garcia dominates Naomi Osaka and advances to the round of 16 in Miami

For her third meeting with Naomi Osaka (229th) this season, Caroline Garcia (27th) regained the advantage in Miami this Sunday. After a victory at the Australian Open, then a defeat in Doha, the Frenchwoman this time defeated the Japanese (7-6 [4]7-5).

With a tight start to the match, where both players relied on their serve (16 aces for Osaka, 12 for Garcia), the first set was decided by a tie-break. Garcia showed more effort in the decisive points to pocket the first set 7-6 [4].

Coco Gauff in the next round

The second set, more unbridled, saw the four-time Grand Slam winner take the lead, achieving the first break of the match. But the 27th player in the world pulled herself together to regain the score immediately, before taking her opponent’s serve at 5-5, then finishing 7-5.

The Frenchwoman will face Coco Gauff, 3rd in the world, in the round of 16 in the next round. The American, who defeated Océane Dodin, won these last two matches against Garcia.
