The name Carlos Alcaraz is usually accompanied by looks at history. With a dazzling rise to the top of men’s professional tennis, his precocity has drawn countless comparisons with legends, searching for some logic in a career that is growing at a dizzying pace. His latest achievement at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, where he lifted the trophy for the second consecutive season, places him at a table reserved for true icons.

The figures of Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer appear on the scene, a symptom of the enormous achievement completed hours ago in California.

At barely 20 years old, the Murcian has completed a milestone so far only signed by the one known as Big Three – the iconic group made up of Serbian, Spanish and Swiss: revalidate an ATP Masters 1000 trophy on both clay and hard surfaces. A feat that reflects his sporting versatility, his hunger on the main stages and his ability to compete as the man to beat, assuming the honors with absolute integrity.

Walking on a terrain only known by the three great giants of modern tennis already implies a merit that is difficult to evaluate. But Alcaraz’s arrival at the ATP Masters 1000 takes on a new level if we look at the age at which he has achieved this challenge: if the Murcian has been competing since his twenties, in his youth, Federer completed the feat at the age of 23, Djokovic had 28 years old and Nadal, the oldest of them all, signed the defense of the throne on both surfaces at the age of 33. Simply put, Alcaraz has broken into the golden category of the ATP Tour at a different speed.

Great figures in the history of tennis such as Andre Agassi, Pete Sampras or Thomas Muster only managed to retain the crown on one surface, and talents such as Michael Chang, Boris Becker or Marat Safin never won ATP Masters 1000 trophies on both.

Now, the horizon opens in the hands of an Alcaraz hungry for history. The Miami Open presented by Itaú, scene of his first conquest in the category, welcomes the Murcian with some special endorsements. History awaits a player totally adapted to the greatness of the sport.
