US Ambassador to Turkey Jeffry L. Flake said that Eda Erdem Dündar is a very important figure in the empowerment of women. Stating that he thought Eda Erdem Dündar deserved this award after seeing her achievements and her work on empowering women, Jeffry L. Flake said, “She is also the captain of the best volleyball team in the world. It is not easy to be in such a position. Stating that they follow many sports competitions in Turkey, Flake said:
“We went to football matches, we went to volleyball matches. We even went to a volleyball match in Antalya last year, the hall was packed. I think it was the most exciting match we have watched recently. It is a great pleasure for me to be in a country like Turkey, which takes sports seriously and sincerely loves them. “My youth was also spent with sports. I played American football and was in the running teams. My wife played basketball in the school team. That’s why it is a great happiness for us to be in Turkey.”

Eda Erdem Dündar noted that she had never even imagined what she had experienced until now and continued as follows:
“I could never go back to the past and imagine that my current situation would be like this. But I never stopped dreaming. The erection of my statue was something that had been on the agenda for years, and it is an incredible feeling that it has come true. Every day when I pass by it, I wonder, ‘Is this real?’ I say. Of course, I could not have imagined these, but I am very lucky. It is priceless for me to see and have such value while my career continues. I am very happy and proud. I would like to thank our club and our beautiful fans again. I could not have imagined it, but it is something I cannot imagine right now. I’m living a career and a life.”
Speaking about how it would feel to have a film or documentary made of him in the future after his statue was erected, the national athlete said, “Believe me, I don’t know. My career is continuing right now. I don’t know if it will be done or wanted to be made. Of course, the fact that such a thing is even a possibility excites me.” “My career continues. I want to serve my team as much as my body allows. I want to play volleyball in the near future. Afterwards, we will all see what will happen and what opportunities will come my way.” he said.
Emphasizing that she has not yet taken a photo with the statue she sees every day, Eda Erdem Dündar said:
“I didn’t take any photos in front of the statue except for the first day. But when I saw people passing by it, I asked, ‘Should I surprise these people?’ “I say. One day, when the weather is nice, I want to pull my car over there and surprise people and take a selfie myself, that’s what I have in mind.”
