Rueda and Ortolá complete the triplet of the small category

The Spanish riders Arón Canet (Kalex), in Moto2; and Dani Holgado (GasGas), in Moto3, have won this Sunday the victories in the races of their respective categories of the Portuguese Grand Prix, the second round of the motorcycle World Championship, and both rise to the leadership of the intermediate and small displacement , respectively.
After 70 races in the category and almost five years after standing on the top spot on the podium for the last time – in Aragón 2019 -, Canet was finally able to celebrate a victory that also allows him to lead the overall Moto2 standings, all after winning in the race ahead of the American Joe Roberts (Kalex) and the Spanish Manu González (Kalex).
On the other hand, bad luck struck the Boscoscuro of the until now leader, Alonso López, and Fermín Aldeguer; The man from Madrid crashed halfway through the race, while the man from Murcia was hit by a double long lap penalty for overtaking his bike at the start of the race, although he was able to make up for it by finishing fourth.
The two Boscoscuro drivers, with Aldeguer at the front, took the lead when the test started in Portimao. Despite sharing a garage, the two engaged in a fierce fight in the first laps that only ended when Race Direction forced the Murcian to complete a double ‘long lap’ for overtaking at the start, which caused him to fall to eleventh place.
Alonso López stayed in front, but a crash at turn 13 during lap 11 served the lead on a plate to an attentive Canet, who did not waste the stroke of luck and guaranteed his first victory in the intermediate category.
Behind them, the podium places were expensive, with Roberts and González finally winning them, and Aldeguer was able to lessen the damage by beating the Japanese Ai Ogura (Boscoscuro) for fourth place.
The Japanese teammate, Sergio García Dols (Boscoscuro), finished sixth; Albert Arenas (Kalex) was eighth and Marcos Ramírez (Kalex), ninth. Outside the ‘Top 10’ were Jeremy Alcoba (Kalex), eleventh; Jaume Masià (Kalex), twenty-first; and Izan Guevara (Kalex), twenty-second.

Previously, in Moto3, Dani Holgado took the victory and the lead, while José Antonio Rueda (KTM) and Iván Ortolá (KTM), second and third respectively, completed the all-Spanish podium.
With his second success in a row in Portimao and the first since Italia 2023, the man from Alicante was able to make up for what happened two weeks ago in Qatar, when, after leading a large part of the race, he was overtaken in the last corner by the Colombian David Alonso (CFMoto ), until now leader of the championship and this Sunday fourth.
In this way, the one from Sant Vicent del Raspeig rises to the overall lead with 45 points, seven more than Alonso and 22 more than Ortolá. The one from Calicanto, who started the event seventh, closed the podium this Sunday at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve, which also included a Rueda that was 44 thousandths behind the winner; Both confirmed the first Spanish Moto3 triplet since Austin 2023.
As soon as the traffic lights went out, José Antonio Rueda retained the privileged position achieved in the fight for pole on Saturday, although Alonso made sure that he did not escape by pulling the group. From behind, Holgado presented his candidacy, overtaking Alonso on lap 8, but two laps later the South American returned it and, after also overtaking the Sevillian, became the new race leader.
The options were now reduced to six drivers, and Holgado took over in the lead on lap 15, and no one could dispute his victory. He from Los Palacios tried in the last lap, but he defended himself perfectly to take the victory and the lead.
Furthermore, Joel Esteban (CFMoto) finished eighth, just ahead of David Muñoz (KTM) and Adrián Fernández (Honda), ninth and tenth respectively. Vicente Pérez (KTM) was fourteenth, while Ángel Piqueras (Honda) could not finish after crashing with 18 laps remaining.
