Camus College Excels in French Championships: A Story of Diversity and Collective Performance

the essentials Five participations in the French championships are planned in several disciplines. AS has 360 students and offers eleven different sports.

With five participations planned in the French UNSS championships, the Albert Camus college is an example. The four athletes and the student judge who competed in the last phase of circuit training in Lyon ranked eleventh out of 26 teams and Pauline, the judge, saw her performance validated at the national level. Mathieu Lamoneyrie and Pierre Raux accompanied them. They will supervise the seven women (including a judge) who will participate in the hip-hop finals in Marseille in May, after their academic title. On April 3, the Pichery swimming pool will host the French water rescue championship. It was to take place in Saverdun, but the pool was under construction. The municipality, called urgently, gave its agreement to receive it: the five Gaillacs of Camus, supervised by Corinne Cerdan and Elodie Genissel, already twice titled, will attempt the pass of three. The badistas (badminton) will go to Troyes from May 27 to 30, with Pierre Raux and Fabien Pascual for the “France” in the excellence category. Finally, the eight acrobatic gym teams (57 students, almost all female), coached by Magalie Serrut and already titled at the departmental level (two podiums, first and third), are qualified for the academic finals (at Briatexte on April 3) and will want to validate their ticket for the French championships, like last year.

Diversity and collective performance

The Camus College Sports Association maintains its performance and influence from one year to the next: it has 360 students, or 49.7% of the establishment’s total enrollment. It offers eleven activities: volleyball, handball, basketball, futsal, badminton, rescue swimming, hip-op, step, circuit training and athletics. The students’ involvement can also be seen in the organization of the raffle intended to partly finance these long trips to the national finals: they sold more than 2,000 tickets. The revenue will supplement the help of the city, the Parents’ Federation and a few partners. It’s an entire college – teaching and administrative teams, parents, department officials – that pushes behind the finalists. The 2024 vintage should complete the trophy case.
