Buzzer Beater School Basketball Tournament Senior Category Finals Preview: Kingdom vs. CPS and San Felipe vs. Saint Francis

The Buzzer Beater school basketball tournament will crown its senior category champions on Tuesday in the men’s and women’s branches, in two games that do not present a clear favorite and promise many emotions on the court of the Fernando “Rube” Hernández de Gurabo Coliseum.

In the men’s branch, The Kingdom Christian Academy of Dorado collides with Caguas Private School (CPS) at 8:00 p.m. Before, at 6:00 pm, the first two classified for the women’s trophy collide, when Saint Francis School of Carolina and Colegio San Felipe de Arecibo meet.

On paper, they are two finals between equal rivals.

“It is not known who will prevail. At least, it gives a sense of excitement to the games,” said the president of Buzzer Beater, Bryan Eloy García.

Below, a look at both finals, which will be broadcast by Wapa Deportes.

Rama masculina: Kingdom vs. CPS

Kingdom, defending champion of the tournament, is getting ready for its third consecutive final after eliminating Academia Cristiana Cohélet de Las Piedras from contention by 53-48 in the first men’s semifinal played on Sunday.

It was a great victory for Kingdom over Cohélet, who arrived in Gurabo as the favorite and number one in the Buzzer Beater ranking. However, Kingdom – fourth place – ended those aspirations and was one step away from its third championship. The Golden institution won the title in 2019 and 2023.

“The expectation is always to win, but we already gave ourselves a great opportunity. For the third year we are on national television, not everyone has that privilege and we are going to go out and represent the colors in the best way,” Kingdom leader Yan Acosta told this medium after winning the ticket.

“It’s not going to be an easy game, but whoever wants it the most is going to win it,” he added.

On the other hand, CPS, number two in the ranking, has just defeated Colegio San Felipe de Arecibo 50-40 in the last duel of the final four phase.

For CPS it will be its first national final.

“We are going to give our best, we are even teams. The one who makes the least mental errors is the one who will come out with the victory,” said CPS coach Iván Ríos.

Female branch: San Felipe vs. Saint Francis

In the female branch, what can be confirmed is that there will be a new champion. Saint Francis and San Felipe debut in a Buzzer Beater final.

Saint Francis arrives as the first classified in the women’s tournament. However, their only setback all season was precisely against their Tuesday rival, San Felipe.

This information, according to García, gives more excitement to the final.

“Those San Felipe girls can do it again. They can dethrone them again like they did in December,” García said.

San Felipe earned its ticket to the final by beating the runner-up Eugenio Guerra Cruz Community School Specialized in Sports at the Olympic Hostel (Ecedao) by 55-49.

Meanwhile, “Las Pumas” defeated the current champions Colegio Adianez de Guaynabo in a defensive clash 36-34.

“It’s going to be a pitched battle, another great game,” mentioned, for his part, the leader of Saint Francis, Iván Pedroza.
