Five days to the start of the A2 series playoffs in the Gold draw, with Cantù facing the Friulians from Cividale in the quarter-finals. Cantù finished the regular season in second place, Cividale in seventh position but achieved a streak of ten consecutive victories in the clock phase, the only team in the entire A2 series.
If Cantù is excited for the most important part of the season, with the start of ticket sales yesterday and special packages with discounts for those who secure a place for game 1 and game 2, the anticipation is also mounting in Cividale for the double challenge in Brianza.
On Sunday – taproom at 6pm at the PalaFitLine in Desio – there will in fact be around a hundred Friulian fans who will reach Brianza and settle in the away section. Climate of absolute fervor in the center a few kilometers from Udine: tickets for match 3, the only one that will certainly be played in Cividale, are almost sold out, due to season ticket holder pre-emptions and free sales.
How are the teams doing? Cantù has resumed training in Seveso in full force. First group training yesterday for Del Cadia, the latest addition to the roster at the transfer deadline: the big man has recovered from a thumb phalanx injury which occurred while he was on trial in Trieste. Nwohuocha was also back, having missed the last minute against Udine due to a flexor problem. High morale, everyone is aware that the third year of the playoffs is an event not to be missed.
In order not to lose pace, Cantù faced and beat Treviglio on Saturday in a behind closed doors friendly in Seveso. Result 87-71, with excellent performances from Cesana (19 points), Burns (12), Baldi Rossi (11) and Hickey (10). It goes without saying that Cesana’s performance in terms of points, combined with the good performance against Udine, gave coach Cagnardi a new and fully usable player during the playoffs.
