In the long-distance duel for a place in the Champions League, Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig showed no weaknesses. BVB won 2-0 (1-0) at 1. FC Union Berlin on matchday 24 of the Bundesliga and thus maintained fourth place in the table. Leipzig are still one point behind, and after falling behind early on, they ultimately prevailed 4-1 (1-1) at VfL Bochum. Eintracht Frankfurt also kept their hopes of participating in the European Cup again with a 2-1 (1-0) win at 1. FC Heidenheim.

In the table cellar, FSV Mainz 05 missed out on the relegation spot with a 1-1 (1-0) draw against Borussia Mönchengladbach and remains second to last. Bottom team SV Darmstadt 98 experienced a debacle in the 0:6 (0:5) against FC Augsburg.
