Bundesliga: VfB supervisory board votes out Claus Vogt as chairman

The supervisory board of VfB Stuttgart has voted out club president Claus Vogt as chairman. Tanja Gönner, general manager of the Federal Association of German Industries, was chosen as her successor, the association announced. Vogt therefore remains a member of the supervisory board.

The Bild According to this, Vogt is said to have announced in writing that he would voluntarily vacate his position as chairman of the supervisory board with the entry of the new investor Porsche. Because he no longer wanted to comply with this, the vote came about.

Porsche recently announced that it wanted to make a “new start on the supervisory board” “as Claus Vogt promised”. Porsche itself is not seeking to take over the chairmanship.

Vogt is popular with fans

Vogt’s deselection is unlikely to go down well in parts of the active fan scene: When the professional football department was spun off into a stock corporation in 2017, members were promised that the president would also lead the supervisory board. That is no longer the case.

Vogt has been President of VfB since 2019 and is elected until 2025. In the dispute over investor entry into the DFL, Vogt spoke out in favor of maintaining the 50+1 rule. He is considered popular by many fans.

In the association’s press release, Gönner assured all members that they would represent the association’s interests “in close communication.” With the supervisory board members of “our partners Mercedes-Benz and Porsche”, she is of the opinion that in the future the “ideal appointment” of the chairman of the supervisory board should be a member of the association’s executive committee. The former Baden-Württemberg Social Minister and Environment and Transport Minister Gönner was quoted as saying that this should be elected directly by the members and have “the necessary professional and personal requirements”. Vogt did not speak in the press release.
