Breaking Barriers: Theatrical Production Celebrates Women in Sport

Stories of women who have overcome their limits and who have made their way in sport, thus making an important contribution to female emancipation, today their story becomes a theatrical work to bring their example to young people. National preview of a new production by La Cattiva Compagnia Teatro entitled “Those strange bad girls – women and sport: a story still to be written”, created in collaboration with ASD Baseball & Softball Nuove Pantere di Lucca, Sunday 17 March, at 5pm , at the Giovanni XXIII Theater of San Cassiano a Vico in Lucca (ANSPI Club “Beata Vergine del Soccorso” – via delle Ville Prima, 2872).

This is a first appointment, which takes us towards the Lucca Teatro Festival – What are clouds? this year at the tenth edition which will be held in the summer from 25 June to 4 August 2024.

The show, with dramaturgy and direction curated by Tiziana, features Daniela Baldassari, Matteo Casini, Patrizia Cerri, Damiano Contrucci, Lucia Della Ghella, Ida Isola, Federico Lorenzi, Serena Meschi, Maddalena Mini, Patrizia Pollastrini and Juan Bernardo Ungaretti, and is included in the “Chi è di Scena!” exhibition, organized by the FITA Provincial Committee of Lucca.

The idea, born from the sports association “Baseball & Softball Nuove Pantere” was welcomed by “La Cattiva Compagnia Teatro” with great enthusiasm: to create a show to celebrate the universal values of sport combined with the common values expressed by the world of entertainment and of culture. “The show was born from the meeting of two associations – explains the director Tiziana Rinaldi of La Cattiva Compagnia -, only apparently different: a theatrical one and a sporting one, but both characterized by passion and love for their own activity; capable of involving the community in the various initiatives. A way of creating community culture with particular attention to the issues of female affirmation and minority rights, addressing the issue of inequality and social justice, in line with the new forms of cultural welfare”.

The show takes us to a changing room, where some female figures read magazines, newspapers and books, talking about women and sports. Thus begins the theatrical piece orchestrated by La Cattiva Compagnia, which gives life to a narrative flow that is at times ironic and funny and at times thoughtful and emotional. A story of how women in sport have self-determined despite gender prejudices, overcoming obstacles and breaking down walls with the sole strength of their determination and self-esteem, ignoring adverse opinions that would have slowed down if not blocked the achievement of their goals. Pioneering women who come to life and speak on stage to tell their stories.

The show, which will debut in April at the Cinema Teatro Puccini in Altopascio, in an event organized by ASD Baseball & Softball Nuove Pantere di Lucca, will be repeated again in April in a matinee for schools at the Teatro Alfieri in collaboration with the Municipality of Castelnuovo di Garfagnana and at the Vincenzo Da Massa Carrara Auditorium in collaboration with the Municipality of Porcari and FITA Lucca Provincial Committee. With LTF on TOUR an opportunity for schools and children to live an experience on which to reflect and discuss.
