Bouncing Back: S.Bernardo Cantù Water Defeats Tezenis Verona to Reclaim Second Place

L’S. Bernardo water shows up with Nwohuocha in the quintet. Bucarelli and Nikolic score the first two baskets, but Verona remains in the wake. It was the triples from Bucarelli and Hickey that broke the balance and brought Cantù up to +8. Penna and Buva close the gap, bringing the guests back to just one point behind. Acqua S.Bernardo doesn’t get upset and goes ahead again thanks to Moraschini and Berdini. Young scores the last basket of the quarter to increase the lead to 23-14.

Hickey immediately takes Acqua S.Bernardo beyond the double-digit lead. Tezenis finds offensive fluidity and returns to just two possessions away. Hickey once again takes command of the Cantù attack, first with a triple and then with the assist for Nikolic’s dunk which forces coach Ramagli to stop the game. Devoe shortens from the line and sends the teams to halftime at 34-28.

Baldi Rossi and Hickey open the dance for Cantù. Devoe tries to fire up from long range, but it is always the American point guard from Acqua S.Bernardo who responds to the Veronese’s attempts at a comeback. Young takes up his compatriot’s baton and responds with the same coin to a triple from Udom. In the last minute, Berdini’s triple brings Cantù back to +9, before Buva’s basket for 52-45 at the end of the third quarter.

Moraschini’s triple gives Acqua S.Bernardo a double-digit advantage again. Tezenis halves the disadvantage with a mini-half, which however is promptly canceled out by the Baldi Rossi-Young duo. Verona doesn’t give up and with a triple from Udom they get closer again. Young and Bucarelli keep Cantù safe. Buva is the last to give up, but a triple from Hickey and a support from Baldi Rossi definitively close the game.
