Boston Red Sox Sign Young Right-Hander Brayan Bello to Lucrative Contract Extension

Young right-hander Brayan Bello has reportedly accepted a six-year, US$55 million contract offer from the Boston Red Sox, according to a source familiar with the negotiations who revealed it to the Associated Press.

This new pact would be accompanied by an option year left at the discretion of the club for $21 million in 2030. This option could, however, be bought back for $1 million, which means that the total agreement could be for seven years and $75 million, said this source.

This person requested anonymity to speak with the AP on Thursday because the deal remains unconfirmed.

Bello, who turns 25 in May, is a Dominican who was signed by the Red Sox in 2017 for $28,000.

He compiled a 12-11 record with a 4.24 ERA in 28 starts last season with the Red Sox, and his fastball averaged 95.5 mph.

Bello is expected to be part of the Red Sox rotation, along with Nick Pivetta, Kutter Crawford, Tanner Houck and Garrett Whitlock.
