Blue Jays Falter Against Yankees in Preseason Matchup, Fall 10-9

The Blue Jays were unable to recover from a poor start and fell 10-9 to the New York Yankees on Saturday in the preseason.

Toronto (10-11) trailed 8-1 after the fifth inning when Bo Bichette hit his first home run of the preseason, good for two runs.

Steward Berroa followed suit with a three-run homer to cut the lead to 9-8 in the eighth. It was also his first.

JC Escarra, however, responded with a bomb of his own to complete the score.

Jays starter Paolo Espino allowed three earned runs on six hits in four innings of work, seeing Giancarlo Stanton power the ball over the fence to make it 3-0 in the third. In relief, Brendon Little also allowed three earned runs in just two thirds of an inning.

In the defeat, Daulton Varsho reached the trails in each of his three appearances, with two singles and a walk.

Quebecer Édouard Julien, for his part, scored a run in the 6-5 victory of the Minnesota Twins against the Tampa Bay Rays. He drew two walks and scored on a double by Royce Lewis in the first inning.
