Blake Snell Signs Two-Year, $62 Million Deal with San Francisco Giants

After a long winter without signing a contract, Blake Snell has finally found a buyer a few days before the start of the season in the Majors.

The free agent agreed to terms on a two-year, $62 million contract with the San Francisco Giants. The deal has a clause that would allow Snell to test the market after next season.

The 31-year-old left-handed pitcher won the second Cy Young Award of his career with the San Diego Padres last year. He went 14-9 with an MLB-high 2.25 ERA.

The gunner was expected to be one of the most coveted free agents this winter and was supposedly looking for a contract worth more than $150 million.

Despite his busy track record, Snell ultimately had to settle for a short-term deal and will have to prove himself again this season.

Snell spent the last three seasons in San Diego and will therefore remain in California for the next campaign.

He played the first five years of his career with the Tampa Bay Rays, with whom he won the Cy-Young in 2018. He also participated in the All-Star game for the only time in his career during this season.
