Belgium’s National Coach Tedesco Sets Lineup for Clash with England: Less Experimentation, More Focus on Form

National coach Domenico Tedesco will experiment less against England tonight than against Ireland. With one, well, try and that is the Anderlecht duo Debast-Vertonghen.

Still no Koen Casteels because his shoulder is bothering him too much. This means that Matz Sels starts his fifth international match (out of twelve) under Tedesco. That is more than Thibaut Courtois (three) and Koen Casteels (four).

At the back, the choice is between Timothy Castagne and Thomas Meunier on the right. We’re guessing he’ll choose Castagne because he was usually part of his regular defense. Centrally he will almost certainly opt for the duo Zeno Debast-Jan Vertonghen, the pair that is used to playing together at Anderlecht. Arthur Theate is fully fit and will be the choice at left back.

In midfield, Amadou Onana and Orel Mangala, also ready to play now, take their place behind Leandro Trossard. The national coach prefers to see the Arsenal player operate more centrally than against Ireland, when Trossard started as a winger.

In the front, of course, Romelu Lukaku and that between Dodi Lukebakio (right) and Jérémy Doku (left), two players who always did well for the Red Devils. This would mean that the starting eleven would change in no fewer than nine places compared to Ireland. Only Sels, Trossard and possibly Castagne remain standing. (lvdw)
