Belgian Football Mourns the Loss of Former La Gantoise Legend André Van Herpe at 90

Former player André Van Herpe died this Thursday at the age of 90. He wore the colors of La Gantoise for more than ten years.

Sad news for Belgian football this Thursday. André Van Herpe died at the age of 90. The information was confirmed by his former club, La Gantoise.

Van Herpe was a true legend among the Buffalos since he played 243 matches in the Ghent jacket with a total of 33 goals between 1951 and 1962 with a highlight as Belgian vice-champion in 1955.

A former Red Devil and emblematic Ghent player has died

“Van Herpe was for more than 10 years one of the driving forces behind one of the best teams in the club’s history. He was a complete player with a vision of the game and his constant wing changes,” the club wrote on his site.

He then left to play under the colors of Racing de Bruxelles before wearing those of Racing White (current RWDM) and Stade Kortrijk (which disappeared to become the current KV Kortrijk).

Van Herpe was also a Red Devil seven times between 1956 and 1958 with a goal scored in Iceland during qualifying for the 1958 World Cup played in Sweden.
