Basketball Association of Singapore Raises $300,000 to Support Local Basketball Development on 90th Anniversary

The Basketball Association of Singapore (BAS) held a dinner on Thursday (March 21) evening to celebrate its 90th anniversary and raised approximately $300,000 through the dinner to promote local basketball.

Funds will provide support for athlete development processes, coach training, sports science and medicine, training environments, data analysis and information, and domestic and international competition opportunities. The purpose of fundraising also includes improving the daily training environment for athletes and providing general financial support.

Du Deren, president of the Basketball Association who took office last year, said: “We want to make basketball more inclusive and social and attract more people to participate.”

In an interview with “Lianhe Zaobao”, Cai Ruilong said: “Singapore basketball has great potential. We still have many expectations for the basketball project. The scene tonight is also very lively. Chen Qinyi, secretary-general of the Basketball Federation, said: “We hope that the funds raised can also be used for cultural dissemination supported by new popular technologies such as educational short videos, so that children, teenagers and other young people can obtain positive and useful information through education. Learn content, create more benefits, translate into more funds, and continue to support basketball in our country.”

Liang Jiaji, the founder of Liang Yuan and an old friend of Du Deren, donated S$50,000. Liang Jiaji said: “I said before that when one day my friend Du Deren becomes the president, I will definitely donate to support him. I have also donated to many projects such as swimming, table tennis and badminton, just hoping that our country’s athletes can Create good results.”

Regarding the outlook for basketball, he believes: “To professionalize a sport, we need to train full-time players.” When asked about any rewards other than expected results, he smiled and said, “I don’t have this consideration, I just want to encourage progress.” .

Liang Yiyao, administrative director of the Basketball Association, said that as of the end of the dinner, a total of about 300,000 Singapore dollars had been raised, and it is expected that more donations should be received by the end of the financial year on the 31st of this month.
