Barça goes to its meeting with Chelsea in the semifinals

The Champions League winners will repeat the penultimate round against the English after ending Brann’s resistance

MADRID, 28 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Barça Femení defeated Brann (3-1) to reach the semi-finals and continue their path to the fourth consecutive final of the Champions League, a victory of Barça’s insistence against the resistance of the Norwegians, despite the 5-2 on aggregate .

Jonatan Giráldez’s team qualified at the Estadi Johan Cruyff for a penultimate European round where they will face Chelsea, just like last year. The 1-2 in the first leg in Bergen already showed a very motivated opponent and it was difficult for them to throw in the towel, but goals from Aitana Bonmatí, Rolfö and Patri Guijarro gave the champions a pass.

The culé team repeated the same siege as in the first leg to Brann and this time they were attentive to the Norwegian response. Barça pressed high and created a lot of danger with the balls they stole in their pressure, until Aitana opened the scoring in the 24th minute.

The double Ballon d’Or winner took advantage of one of those recoveries that left the ball tilted in front of her to place it with her left foot in the net away from Mikalsen’s hands. The visiting goalkeeper, the best on her team last week, had already made good saves.

Barça accumulated many minutes near the rival area, almost a dozen corner kicks and series of dangerous crosses that found no finisher. Graham Hansen had several chances, also after 0-1, but the score did not increase at the break.

Mariona had another one in a good connection with Rolfö and Alexia Putellas back in the starting lineup. The Spanish international looked for her role in the game, from less to more, until finishing the first half giving a valuable assist that Mariona did not convert. That’s where half of the game ended, with Barça demanding a penalty for the ball to the elbow of the defense in their cut to Mariona.

With 3-1 in the tie, the Norwegians tried to look at Gaupset and Eikeland who jumped off the bench, but Barça continued in control and doubled the lead. In a sprint by Hansen to gain the baseline advantage, his poisoned cross bounced off three rivals until it fell to Rolfö an inch from the goal (2-0).

With half an hour left and 4-1 on aggregate, Brann was already sentenced, Mariona almost did it, but in the next Svendheim closed the gap. Guijarro said the last word for Barça in the 88th minute (3-1), or rather a Hansen who once again went with authority down the wing, when the Norwegians accepted the culé superiority.

Giráldez’s team will face each other in the semis, like last year, against Chelsea, classified on Wednesday with a 1-1 against Ajax, but also superior to their rival with 4-1 in the tie.
