Baník Ostrava Earns Victory Against Weakened Opponent Without Suspended Defenders

In the end, against a weakened opponent, who finished the game without suspended defenders Martin Chlumecký and Pablo Ortiz, Baník was quite worried about the lead. The goalkeeper of the home team, Antonín Kinský, played several standard situations around the halfway line, there were also other kicks, but the guests defended the three points.

“We should have reacted better and held the ball for maybe five minutes. We should have played it from one side to the other, tired the opponent, maybe a window would have appeared and we would have scored a second insurance goal. We were committing stupid losses, Pardubice simplified the game and we relieved them of the pressure a little,” described Hapal.

He had a good feeling about the team’s overall performance. “We controlled the game more than Pardubice, we were stronger in combination, we created chances. But we will work hard for a goal, that is our biggest problem,” said coach Baník.

His team looked more confident in combination, but in the first half they survived two big opportunities for the home side. After a defensive error, Filip Brdička found himself alone in front of Jiří Letáček, but did not hit the goal. Vojtěch Patrák then headed into the crossbar, Brdička’s subsequent shot was excellently eliminated by Letáček.

“It’s good that those chances didn’t end with a goal. Fortunately, Lety kept us going as always. We bounced back from that,” said Ostrava defender Filip Blažek.

It was the twenty-six-year-old Slovak who decided the duel. He capitalized on an Ewerton corner in the 69th minute when David Lischka extended the ball to him at the back post. Blažek was knocking on the empty gate all by himself. “We finally made it through the standard, we are still practicing them and here we were rewarded. We wanted to get over the back post, we’ve been working on it all week. Bláža was in all three chances, I wish him a goal,” said Hapal.

The players of Baník Ostrava are rejoicing over the goal scored by defender Filip Blažek (right) in Pardubice.

“The coach told me this emphatically. I aimed twice, the third time I hit. I am grateful for that,” stated Blažek.

Baník moved to fifth place in the table by two points behind Slovácko. “We already wanted to approach him last time, but we lost against Olomouc. I believe that we will win at home as well,” said Hapal. “It’s time to break it,” raged Blažek. Baník will welcome Teplice after the international break.
