Caroline Garcia Swept Away by Jasmine Paolini in Madrid WTA 1000

While she had won five of her first seven duels with Jasmine Paolini, Caroline Garcia was swept away by the 28-year-old Italian on Sunday in the third round of the WTA 1000 in Madrid (6-3, 6-2).

Even if Paolini (13th) is playing the tennis of his life and already this season has a round of 16 at the Australian Open and a title at the WTA 1000 in Dubai, the surprise came from his ability to be even more explosive as Caroline Garcia (24th), whose speed and power of strikes are nevertheless her trademark.

Carried by fiery legs and a permanent enthusiasm to commit fully to her shots, Paolini flew through the debates until 6-3, 2-0, winning almost two thirds of the points contested and losing only three points on his service.

Barely an hour of play

Manhandled on her second balls, still the victim of too high a rate of unforced errors, Garcia had a burst to get back to 2-2, but Paolini then produced a superb return game to immediately break the Frenchwoman. The latter then only managed to score six points, against a successful opponent, only to suffer a very clear defeat, in just 1 hour 02 minutes, one month before the start of Roland-Garros.

In the round of 16, Monday, Jasmine Paolini will face the rocket Mirra Andreeva (43rd), who at 16 years old confirms all the good that she demonstrated a year ago in the same Caja Magica, already reaching the quarter doors in Madrid.
