Bad news for Hurkacz. Defeat can have disastrous consequences. Tennis

This season is not going according to Hubert Hurkacz’s plan. Although he started well, reaching the quarterfinals of the Australian Open and the semifinals in Marseille, he was later eliminated in the 1/8 finals in Rotterdam and in the quarterfinals in Dubai. He completely failed in Indian Wells, where he lost in the second round. He had a chance to break through at the Miami Open, but he didn’t start that tournament well either. He fought as many as three three-set fights. He won two of them, against Alexander Shevchenko and Sebastian Korda, but he lost against Grigor Dimitrov, which could have disastrous consequences for him.

Bad news for Hubert Hurkacz. He may fall out of the TOP 9. It all depends on the conqueror

The Pole has never won against the Bulgarian, although he had four opportunities to do so. And he didn’t manage to end his disastrous streak in Florida. He lost again 6:3, 3:6, 6:7 (3). What’s worse, the opponent keeps climbing up the ladder and has a chance to win the title. He has just advanced to the semi-finals, defeating Carlos Alcaraz quite sensationally. Now he will face Alexander Zverev. And if he manages to beat this player too, Hurkacz will have problems.

What are we talking about? About the drop in the ATP ranking. Currently, the Pole is in ninth place with 3,425 points. He will not add to this achievement in the following days. Something else Bulgarian. He is currently in 11th place in the LIVE ranking with 3,290 points. If he advances to the finals, his account will have 3,540 points. This would mean that he will overtake our compatriot and he will drop to 10th place.

Fortunately, no other rival has a chance to push the Pole out of the TOP 10. Nevertheless, the drop is bad news for him. It hasn’t been this low since November 2023.

Ranking ATP Live (stan na 29.03.2023):

1. Novak Djoković – 9,725 points 2. Carlos Alcaraz – 8,645 points 3. Jannik Sinner – 8,110 points (max. 8,710) 4. Daniil Medvedev – 7,165 points (max. 7,765) 5. Alexander Zverev – 5,370 points (max. 5,970) 6. Andrei Rublev – 4890 points 7. Holger Rune – 3795 points 8. Casper Ruud – 3615 points 9. Hubert Hurkacz – 3425 points 10. Alex de Minaur – 3355 points 11. Grigor Dimitrov – 3290 points (max. 3890).

A drop in the ranking may cause even greater frustration in the player, which is already at a high level. This was visible in the match against Dimitrov.

At the key moment of the tie-break in the third set, he lost a point and threw his racket on the court, which surprised not only the fans but also the media. The 27-year-old rarely shows negative emotions outwardly. “He was furious”, “He didn’t believe it” – wrote foreign journalists.

Hurkacz, however, will not have much time to rest. He will most likely play in the ATP 250 in Estoril. The tournament will take place from April 1 to April 7. Later, the more important part of the season will begin, i.e. events in Monte Carlo, Barcelona, Madrid and Rome, which will precede Roland Garros.
