Austin Butler to Star in Darren Aronofsky-Directed Thriller ‘Caught Stealing’

US actor Austin Butler (“Elvis”, “Dune: Part 2”) wants to shoot a thriller under the direction of Hollywood director Darren Aronofsky (“The Whale”, “Black Swan”). The Sony Pictures studio is behind the planned film “Caught Stealing” based on the book of the same name by US author Charlie Huston, as the industry portals “Variety” and Deadline.com reported.

The story revolves around a former baseball athlete who is unwittingly drawn into the New York underworld of the 1990s and has to fight for his survival. Aronofsky wrote in a statement that he is looking forward to embarking on this “adrenaline-filled rollercoaster ride” with Sony Pictures and Butler.

The 32-year-old actor is one of Hollywood’s most sought-after faces. Quentin Tarantino brought him in front of the camera for “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” (2019). In 2023 he was nominated for an Oscar for his “Elvis” role. He most recently played a bald villain in the sci-fi epic “Dune: Part 2” directed by Denis Villeneuve.

Aronofsky is known for films such as “Requiem for a Dream” (2000), “The Wrestler” (2008), “Black Swan” (2010), “Noah” (2014) and “Mother!” (2017). Last year, Brendan Fraser won the Oscar for best actor for his leading role in Aronofsky’s drama “The Whale.”
